Movenience B.V. combines comfort with mobility in the infrastructure pricing market. A special electronic payment device (On Board Unit) sold by Movenience makes it easy for motorists to pay for car-related services (such as tolls, filling up, parking, etc) from within the car. At the beginning of 2010, Movenience B.V. will have its own Back Office and its own On Board Unit (OBU), the t-tag, to enable it to provide this service.
Of course, the most conventional method of payment is cash, but this is also the most expensive type of payment for entrepreneurs due to high bank charges, transport and security costs, and point-of-sale terminal costs. So it’s not surprising that, as an operator, you will want to make the greatest possible use of alternative payment options such as bank cards and maybe new means of payment too.

- Availability and market share of the method of payment. This is actually determined by the quality of the product for the client and the current market penetration of the method of payment;
- Added value for you as an operator.
Cash payments are not only the most costly form of payment, but they also take a relatively long time to effect. When Movenience enters the parking fees payment market, it will be important to find out how the t-tag differs from alternative payment options. And this is all the more important because a number of new forms of payment have recently appeared on this market. For instance, people can now pay parking fees with their mobile phones to a limited extent. Our intention is to implement the costs of the t-tag for car park operators in such a way that these costs will be approximately the same as those for credit cards or chip cards.
The t-tag can definitely be of interest to municipalities as an instrument for achieving their objectives with respect to parking policy. Some examples include increasing capacity utilisation in multi-storey car parks, and combining use of the t-tag with admission systems for low-traffic areas.
What clearly emerges from this analysis is that the Movenience t-tag is an extremely attractive product for introducing alternative forms of payment in multi-storey car parks.
Added value of the t-tag for clients
The analysis is based on the assumption that supplementary services will be provided in the current area of use for the t-tag, i.e. the province of Zeeland and environs. The t-tag will be a relatively inexpensive option compared to all the other new forms of payment. For instance, paying by mobile phone involves substantial registration and user charges. However, this technique can be used in multi-storey car parks as well as for parking spaces on the streets, which is a definite advantage. There are no options for paying by mobile phone in Zeeland at the present moment.
