Business plan Movenience
As an EETS (European Electronic Toll System) service provider, Movenience will initially focus on toll projects. Movenience has started its business operations for N.V. Westerscheldetunnel in this capacity. To this end, Movenience uses N.V. Westerscheldetunnel’s OBU (On Board Unit), known as the t-tag. As from March 2010, Movenience takes care of the administrative handling of all t-tag transactions for N.V. Westerscheldetunnel.
Its aim is to conclude a contract for ETC (Electronic Toll Collection) services with other tunnel operators as well, starting in 2010. This will result in several benefits for the operators:
- Scale benefits (lower costs) obtained by serving more clients at reduced costs for each transaction;
- Expansion of services to create more passages and transactions;
- Increasing market share with respect to tolling in the Netherlands, thereby creating a position for road pricing and new toll projects;
Endeavouring to achieve interoperable service provision is one of Movenience’s most important and realistic objectives.
Additional services
There are new projects afoot in connection with car-related EFC (Electronic Fee Collection) services for (multi-storey) car parks, petrol stations and admission systems for sites or designated areas. This means that people can also use the t-tag to pay in multi-storey car parks, for instance. The aim behind this service is to increase the number of t-tag transactions. This can be achieved by expanding customer service while simultaneously attracting new clients by providing a wider range of services.
Growth strategy
Movenience will be providing its services in Zeeland first of all and will subsequently expand these services to include the rest of the Netherlands and Belgium. The basic principle underlying the company’s growth strategy is capturing a substantial market share with respect to toll projects. The main purpose of its other services is to increase Movenience’s allure as an EETS service provider, which will in turn increase market penetration of the t-tag.
Ambition
Movenience’s ambition is to play a major role in the road pricing market as a service-oriented, smart and reliable service provider.
To achieve this ambition, Movenience is currently engaged in four activities:
- Full handling of all t-tag transactions for N.V. Westerscheldetunnel, or Electronic Toll Collection (ETC), including taking care of customer service and the receivable accounts register;
- Developing new car-related services known as ‘Value Added Services’ (VAS), such as using the t-tag for parking and enabling clients to use the t-tag to pass other toll operators (interoperability);
- Positioning for the future road pricing market by actively lobbying, entering into strategic collaborative projects, and participating in road pricing pilot projects (such as the ‘Spitsmijden’ or rush-hour avoidance pilot projects);
- Increasing market penetration of the t-tag by participating in projects related to paying for mobility (e.g. the Mainportcorridor Zuid Project) and investigating the possibilities of collaboration with petrol stations and oil companies, or leasing and insurance companies, for example.
